BeetleBlock Verbenone and BeetleBlock MCH are anti-aggregation pheromones that can significantly reduce the probability that bark beetles will attack and kill pine and Douglas-fir trees. As BeetleBlock Verbenone and BeetleBlock MCH are composed of the beetle’s own naturally occurring pheromones, they are a good alternative to pesticides in residential and recreational settings, campgrounds, parks, riparian zones or other areas where the use of pesticides is not recommended or practical.
Insects are specific to the tree they are named for. The pine beetle will usually only attack pine trees and the fir-beetle will only attack Dougla-fir trees. BeetleBlock Verbenone, used for protection against the mountain pine beetle, comes in a white plastic ‘pouch’ and is about the size of a thin deck of cards. BeetleBlock MCH, used for protection against the fir-beetle, comes as a plastic ‘bubble’ roughly the size of a silver dollar. These plastic membranes are semi-permeable and are specially designed to release their active ingredient (pheromone) steadily over time into the surrounding area.
BeetleBlock products are registered with EPA but are not conventional pesticides. As ‘biochemical pesticides’ they don’t kill anything and have have minimal impact on the environment. In fact, unlike conventional pesticides, Verbennone and MCH are already normal constituants of the forest environment. They are easy to use, affordable and effective.
Unlike some other commercially available Verbenone and MCH, BeetleBlock products are designed to last the entire season and do not require a second application. This saves time and money.
