ANSWERS
Q. I have heard about a lot about the Emerald ash borer. Is something being done about this? A. The Emerald ash borer (Agrilus planipennis) or EAB for short, is a small, metallic-green wood-boring beetle that is highly destructive to ash trees (Fraxinus Spp.). It is a major economic and environmental threat to urban and forested areas. The Canadian and US APHIS are using Synergy’s prism traps and lures to detect and monitor EAB in many areas.
Q. What is the shelf life of your products? A. Shelf life varies from product to product. We make our products fresh, in small batches, so you will be receiving the freshest lure possible. Most products can safely be stored up to a year in the freezer.
Q. How do I hang the lure in the Multifunnel trap? A. Most lures are punched with a hole so that you can attach a twist tie. The lure is then hung on the outside of the trap, approximately ¼ the way up from the collection cup. More information
Q. My lures are sealed in a white or brown bag. Should I open them up to deploy each component on the Multifunnel trap? A. No. Do not open the inner white or brown bags. These are made from plastic that is designed to release the active ingredients slowly over time. Also, the bags are used to help hold multiple components together on a Multifunnel trap. Release rates are not impeded by these bags.
Q. What is the difference between wet and dry collection cups on the Multifunnel traps? A. Wet cups are usually used by placing proplyeneglycol in the cups to preserve the beetles. Dry cups have a mesh filter at the bottom so that the beetles remain “dry” and not preserved in liquid.
Q. What is the life span of the lure? A. Each lure can have a different release rate and effective life span once deployed in the field. Refer to the product specification sheet for that product or call us for details.
Q. What is the difference between a funnel lure and a tree bait? A. Tree baits are usually stapled directly to the bole of a tree and do not have a terpene component added. Funnel lures are hung on the Multifunnel trap and generally have a terpene component that mimics the smell of the host tree.
Q. You are doing field research for more improved attractant and repellent products. How do I know that my lures are based upon the most up-to-date research? A. We continually update and revise our formulations for lures, tree baits and repellents. Our manufacturing process allows us to change formulations quickly and efficiently on demand.
Q. I don’t see the lure that I want on your product list. A. We can custom make most lures to your specifications. Please call us.
Q. How do I dispose of the lure once it is spent? A. Our products are non-toxic to the environment but should be disposed of in a responsible manner where they will not contaminate food or water supplies.
Q. How do I store lures? A. We recommend storing lures in the original un-opened packaging or sealed in an air-tight container below 00 C / 320 F
Q. My Multifunnel trap arrived without the canopy attached. How do I assemble it? A. You will have received a collection of hardware and plastic components. We ship our traps partially assembled to save shipping costs. It takes approximately 2-3 minutes to assemble the canopy. More information
Q. Can I order Synergy products online? A. We do not have on-line ordering. However, you can give us a call or send us an e-mail or fax. If we need more information from you we will let you know.
