We listened to comments from trap users and Synergy has made the first updates and improvements to the original design of the classic MultiFunnel trap.
Developed in the early 1980's by Dr. Staffan Lindgren, the funnel trap has become the North American standard for bark beetle and woodboring insect trapping. The original design used a white lid from a 5 gallon pail riveted to the top funnel. While functional, this made canopy replacement expensive and inconvenient. Wire trap hangers often became tangled during storage in the off season
Synergy’s engineered canopy is black to preserve the dark silhouette of the trap and improve trap catches. The hemispheric shape sheds rainwater easily, and the wire hanger has been replaced by a sturdy eyebolt. This new canopy is easily replaced in the field using only simple tools. The canopy is fastened to the trap body using high strength nylon pins making the trap more durable and robust than previous versions. The removable canopy allows traps to be packed more efficiently for shipping which means lower shipping costs for our customers.
Traps are available with either a wet or dry collection cup. MultiFunnel trap parts are interchangeable with any earlier versions of the trap using snap-in legs to connect funnels together. Updating your older traps with our Canopy Assembly Kit is a snap (see parts list)
