USE STRATEGIES
Single Tree Protection (for selected trees)
BeetleBlock™ products can be used for individual tree protection. If you have only a few high value trees to protect use a minimum of two dispensers on each tree you want to protect.
Small Area Protection
Areas of less than ½ acre (all trees in that area) may be protected by forming a perimeter with trees or other vertical objects containing the BeetleBlock™ dispensers. Trees in the center of the perimeter may also be treated. This treatment is much like using a picket fence to protect the trees inside the perimeter.
Area Wide Protection
For areas of 1 acre or larger, the desired treatment is to lay out an even distribution of the dispensers which will blanket the area in a plume of repulsive pheromone. This is most often done with dispensers set out in grid pattern or along parallel lines. It is not absolutely necessary to have each dispenser on a susceptible tree as other vertical surfaces and non-host trees may be used to maintain the integrity of the grid. If it is known which direction the beetles will come from, additional dispensers can be put out in a line or lines in front of the trees to be protected. As a general estimate, 30 dispensers per acre set out in a grid pattern are useful for BeetleBlock™ tree protection products
